Q&A: What are the best treatments/medications/remedies for acne?

22/5/2016

There are important nutritional considerations to eliminating acne that you can read about elsewhere on this site, or purchase a Nutrition & Supplementation Personal Report for a personalised answer. Aside from proper nutrition, you should also use essential oils. These are plant-based volatile molecules (they are not vegetable oils like coconut, almond, etc) that you can use very sparingly, topically, for a powerful effect.

Essential oils that have anti-acne properties include: lavender (lavendula officinalis), frankincense (boswellia carteri), basil (ocimum basilicum), bergamot (citrus aurantium var bergamia), and tea tree (melaleuca alternifolia).

For acute cases: Apply a drop of lavender oil, for instance, directly to a pimple or a budding pimple 2–3x per day. It will help dry it out very quickly and calm the inflammation. Some see results in as little as one day. This is safe to do with lavender and frankincense essential oils. Tea tree essential oil should not be applied directly. Dilute it to roughly 1 drop per 1 ml (or 5 drops per teaspoon) of a “carrier oil” such as almond oil or apricot kernel oil, then apply it to the area.

For prevention: Try to eliminate toxins, artificial products, chemicals, preservatives, and antibiotics from your skin care. This means either making your own skin care products fresh, or buying plant-based skin care products that you are certain are free of: phthalates, parabens, triclosan, antibiotics, artificial colorings, and other chemicals which can mimic hormones in the body and have even been associated with cancer. The body’s need to deal with these chemicals we put on it, in addition to the toxins in the air and the toxins we put IN it, are part of what causes acne to occur and recur. An all-natural skin care regimen that also includes the nutritional suggestions mentioned in other answers will be your best bet.
